The 1756-L82ES processor is a ControlLogix 5580 series processor with 7.5 MB of user memory. It comes from the 1756 product line that is manufactured by Allen-Bradley. For networking and communication, the unit is equipped with both an Ethernet/IP port and a USB port. The USB port supports speeds of up to 12 Mbps and the Ethernet port supports speeds of up to 1 GB. The controller is able to handle 32 tasks a time. The ControlLogix 1756-L82ES processor can handle a total of 128,000 digital I/O and 4000 analog I/O at a time. An optional nonvolatile memory can be added to the controller for storage. It supports up to 2 GB of additional memory from memory cards. An energy storage module is embedded in the controller and it is non-removable. 

The ControlLogix 1756-L82ES processor has a small form factor and weighs only 0.868 pounds. The operating temperature should be set between 0 and 60 degrees Celsius in a relatively humid setting. The controller is able to withstand shocks and vibrations of 30 G for a brief amount of time. It has been certified with the cULus, CSA, DM, and CE standards. The controller has an open enclosure. The 1756-L82ES processor has a power dissipation rating of 6.2 Watts and a thermal dissipation rating of 21.2 BTU per hour. Basic insulation exists with an isolation voltage of 50 Volts. The ControlLogix unit has current draws of 5 milliamps and 1.20 milliamps at 1.2 and 5.1 Volts DC respectively. The operators can view the status of the controller on its display panel. There are LED indicators to show status of network, link, power, and other parameters.
